Broken Hearts on Valentine’s Day with Art Theft
At Costa Mesa Art Gallery
In the South Coast Collection (SoCo) OC MIX Building
Costa Mesa: The Chuck Jones Gallery, located at 3313 Hyland Avenue, Costa Mesa, California in the South Coast Collection (SoCo) OC MIX building, was the site of a smash and grab theft of three works of art Thursday morning, February 14, 2019. The thieves smashed in the front door of the gallery and made off with over $7900 worth of original and limited edition artwork.
Stolen were: “Wishful Thinking No. 8” an original mixed media artwork by Tom Everhart, “Rats!” a framed limited edition fine art print on paper, edition #16, from 21st Century Publishing, and “Hey Linus, Guess Who’s Back?” a mixed media cel art edition number 26 with an original pencil drawing by Lawrence Leichliter from Sopwith Productions and Bill Melendez Studios.
“No other works of art are missing from the gallery,” said Scott Dicken, VP of Retail Sales for Linda Jones Enterprises, the parent company of the Chuck Jones Gallery organization. “It appears that the break-in occurred during the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day when the open-air mall is closed. The smashed-in glass of the front door was discovered by routine security patrolling of the mall. We’re thankful that no one was hurt during the break-in.”
Anyone with information regarding this theft is encouraged to contact Julie Dance of the Costa Mesa Police Department, 714-754-5252 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
