Star Wars Tribute with James Coleman, Rodel Gonzalez, Rob Kaz @ Chuck Jones Gallery–San Diego

The Chuck Jones Gallery–San Diego will be the site for a “Star Wars” Art Tribute on Thursday, July 21 from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Our special guest artists will be James Coleman, Rodel Gonzalez, and Rob Kaz. RSVP required 619-294-9880.

James Coleman, known around the world as one of the pre-eminent Disney background artists, has, over the past several years, turned his eye to creating a rich and luxurious body of work that celebrates not only his work at Disney and his deep, abiding love for Hawaii, but also his fascination for the movies. His new interpretive “Star Wars” work brings together all of his loves and immense talent to bear on some of the most exquisite paintings and limited edition fine art prints of his career.

Rodel Gonzalez is a rock star! No, it’s true, Rodel’s first career was as the lead singer for a rock band in his native Philippines. However, over the past few years, he’s turned his creative eye to painting. His interpretive work of the Disney Studio characters and “Star Wars” have become highly sought after by collectors. His innate talent as a narrative painter is one reason his work touches the hearts and minds of so many.

The young artist, Rob Kaz, charms with his whimsical story-telling abilities and vibrant palette of tropical colors. His wit and sharp intellect are apparent in his paintings, with their luxurious colors and dense shapes and forms. Although the shown “Star Wars” works are more monochromatic in palette, they still retain the fresh viewpoint of this young, up-and-coming fine artist.

Meet James Coleman, Rodel Gonzalez, and Rob Kaz at the Chuck Jones Gallery on Thursday, July 21 from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, RSVP required: 619-294-9880. Yes, yes, I know, the man with the "Don't Press Your Luck" t-shirt looks really angry, but I guarantee you that he is not–he's just a devoted, passionate fan and collector of the art of Simone Bianchi (shown seated in the black beret.)

We'd be remiss if we did not share with you a few photos (BTW, all of these photos are courtesy the multi-talented Dean Diaz, a longtime employee of Linda Jones Enterprises and all-around wit), of some of the people attending this year's Comic Con International.  Enjoy!

Illudium Q36 Explosive Space Modulator or How Mike Kungl Saved the Planet

Artist and interplanetary traveller Mike Kungl visited the Chuck Jones Gallery in Tustin today (also the secret headquarters of Linda Jones Enterprises and home to the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity) to deliver his portrait of the elusive and nefarious Marvin the Martian in time for display at the Chuck Jones Gallery in San Diego during this year's Comic Con International.  Shown here holding his newest mixed media on canvas, "Q36" with earthlings (from left) Scott Dicken, Craig Kausen, and Robert Patrick, Kungl looks set to take over the planet with his stellar painting style and out-of-this-world charm.

If you're visiting San Diego for Comic Con, look for this new work in the gallery, now available as a fine art print on paper; it's one you won't want to miss for fear of interfering with Marvin's plans to take over the planet.   But before I give too much away, I must don my disintegration-proof vest!

Chuck Jones Gallery: Spotlight on San Diego

HPIM5460

Our southern California consultants got together yesterday at the beautiful Chuck Jones Gallery in San Diego for a conference led by the amazing Greg Winston (see photo below.)  The gallery is located at 232 Fifth Avenue, in the heart of San Diego's famed GasLamp District, and is just wrapping up an incredible exhibit of rare Dr. Seuss editions (on paper, canvas & sculpture, too!)

HPIM5464
When you first enter the gallery you're greeted by the life-size bronze sculpture of Dr. Seuss' Lorax (who has a permanent home on the campus of the University of California–San Diego.)

HPIM5469
The gallery is designed in such a way that although it's a big loft-like space, it has areas that evoke the intimate feeling of your own home.

HPIM5466
There are, of course, big dramatic architectural gestures that perfectly frame the featured art of, in this case, Marcus Pierson.

HPIM5471
With all of its nooks & crannies, you can spend hours enjoying the artwork & finding that one (or more!) special works of art that will be a perfect addition to your collection.

Gallery director, Mike Dicken, and his staff are busy getting ready for Comic Con International which opens Thursday, July 22nd and runs through Sunday, July 25th.  The gallery will be host to two incredible artists on Thursday and Friday evenings (see your invitation below) as well as weekend signings with Anthony Winn and Mike Kungl.  Make your plans to attend & remember to RSVP at 888-294-9880 or via email, SanDiego@ChuckJones.com.
