"I Love Lucy" original charcoal on white pastel on tinted wove paper, 25" x 19" unframed.

Lew Loves Lucy! New “Old Hollywood” Portrait by Fran Lew

Master American portrait artist, Fran Lew, has just completed a stunning, evocative portrait of two of old Hollywood’s most enduring stars, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Utilizing her flawless technical skills, Lew has captured the living, breathing embodiment of the spark and beauty of this dynamic husband-and-wife comedy team.

Using her special charcoal pencils and white pastel and working on tinted wove paper, Lew has brought her considerable talents to bear on this unique work of nostalgia. What secret is Lucy cautioning us to keep with her finger poised at her lips? The look of “uh-oh” on Desi’s face may give a clue to the ensuing comedic moment and with so many to choose from, it’s just a matter of memory to bring your laughter to life.

In Fran Lew’s own words:

Why I Love Lucy

“For decades, millions of “I Love Lucy” fans have fallen in love with the zany, hilarious comedy of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. “I Love Lucy” is often regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms in history. In 2012, it was voted the ‘Best TV Show of All Time’ in a survey conducted by ABC News and People Magazine.

“I take pleasure in capturing and sharing the memories of people who we have all come to love and admire. To celebrate the upcoming 65th anniversary of “I Love Lucy”, I created a commemorative portrait of Lucy and Desi as an everlasting tribute to their glamour, comic genius, and contribution to American pop culture.”

“Always Have a Plan B” fine art reproduction on paper by Fabio Napoleoni, exclusive to the Chuck Jones Gallery.

Much of life’s loves and tribulations have influenced Fabio’s artwork but none more than the traumatic events that followed the birth of his second child.  His daughter, born with severe heart abnormalities, had to face several surgeries to correct issues that could have prevented her from having a future. His now iconic character, the tattered and stitched together Marcenivo, and his quest for eternal happiness and love, is one way he shows the resiliency of the human spirit. Through his art, he feels that he can repay a debt of gratitude for the life his daughter now enjoys.

Napoleoni, one of America’s rising young art stars is making his first appearance at the gallery.  “As a child and into my teen years, the characters created by Chuck Jones played a huge role in my creative thinking. Chuck was able to create unique characters that made you laugh and smile uncontrollably. I utilize a similar sensibility except instead of laughter, my characters tug at your heart strings and evoke deep emotions. The fact that my works hang on the same walls as those of Chuck Jones I consider a high point of my career.”

About the gallery: The Chuck Jones Gallery, located in the plaza neighborhood of Old Santa Fe, is the destination for art collectors and visitors from around the world.  Owned by Linda Jones Enterprises, the publisher and distributor of the art of the legendary animation creator and director, Chuck Jones, it is the only gallery in San Diego devoted to the art of American popular culture. Included in the on-going display is art by not only its namesake, Chuck Jones, but also, Dr. Seuss, Charles Schulz, Tom Everhart, Markus Pierson, Glen Tarnowski, Fran Lew, and Fabio Napoleoni. For more information, please call the gallery at 505-983-5999.

Mr. Napoleoni is available for interviews subject to his schedule. Images available upon request.
