I second every word of Craig's description of this remarkable day! From the early morning coffee (hospitably and graciously offered by the Laguna Niguel float workers who had set up a sumptuous breakfast array on the street near our (and their) float, to the distinctly odd sensation of feeling as if we were moving after we disembarked at the end of the parade route!

While the judges were judging, the day before the parade, I felt a bit like I was in school and that it was very possible that blinking could make a difference in whether this float was recognized for the wonder it truly was. As Craig said, thanks to Raul Rodriguez' genius in translating Chuck's Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote into a marvel in flowers. We heard that the red carnations were a particular vexation as they kept popping off the rocket the day before...but the experts know how to manage these things and none of them flew off during the parade to my knowledge.

One of the few demands that was forcefully made to us just before we embarked was, "Do not, under any circumstances, throw flowers to the crowd!!!" It hadn't occurred to me to do so and it seemed like a bizarre admonition...until people started yelling, "Throw us a flower! Throw us a rose!" Fortunately we could honestly say, "We can't...sorry!"

The intimacy with the crowd was astonishing to me...my first parade from the parader's POV... I felt energized and excited by what seemed to me to be a personal contact with everyone with whom I could briefly make eye contact. I think I will be a better Parade Watcher now...more energetic and appreciative of the interaction between the watcher and the watched...

Another bonus was the opportunity to spend almost two full days with Craig... you know married sons and their mothers just don't often have opportunities to spend time together, so it was a great treat for me and I enjoyed every minute of it!!

Great recount of your days events. It's so fitting that you brought along Chuck's hat and cane. Thanks for sharing!

Craig

Hi Eric, I received a ton of text messages and emails about Chuck's hat and cane. See you soon. Craig
